How to Choose the Right Mattress for You

Do you sleep good at night? Wake up with back, neck or other body pain? Do you wake up tired? The quality of sleep is just as important as the quantity. Sleeping an extra thirty minutes to an hour may seem beneficial, but if you are still waking up three to four times a night, you are still doing your body no good. Everyone deserves a good night sleep, so maybe your next step is to get a comfortable mattress. Which mattress is right for you depends on each individual persons preferences.

Whether your body needs a firm hard mattress or a soft plush one, makes a world of difference when you go to sleep at night. Hard, or firmer mattresses are less giving and more supportive but generally do less to conform to the body. A softer mattress is less supportive but will conform more to your body. Depending on your individual needs, based on your body’s aches and pains, is the direction of mattress you will go to. If you suffer from back or neck pain you may want a mattress that will conform to your body, making you think of choosing a softer mattress. Going too soft though can be a bad thing, leading to over sagging and no support which can create its own set of sleeping problems. Your body will struggle to compensate to keep itself balanced or correctly positioned. A firm mattress can give you the support that your body needs, but just like sitting in the bleachers during a hockey, too firm a mattress can actually restrict blood circulation leading to numbness or stiffness.

So the key is to find a mattress that’s just right, enough support for your body but comfortable enough to make you feel at ease during the night. There is no perfect answer in terms of hard or soft, you must know your body and try out different types of mattresses to give yourself a better understanding of what your body requires.
