Sleeping Problems: The Mattress May Be to Blame

Health Professionals have told people that the key to a healthy body is eating the right foods, getting regular exercise and getting plenty of rest. When it comes to rest, many people struggle. They have trouble getting a good night’s sleep. They will blame their lumpy mattress and will start to seek out a solution to the problem.

It is possible to go and buy an expensive mattress to get the rest that is needed. A mattress can cost several thousand dollars and is not the right solution for many people. An alternative to the expensive mattress is a mattress pad. Mattress pads can cost a lot less than an expensive mattress, but will it help people get the rest that they are looking for? The simple answer to that question is yes and no.

The main thing to consider when wondering whether a mattress pad will help with sleeping problems is the quality of the mattress pad. There are many different types of mattress pads and they vary in size, thickness and quality. There are also some mattress pads that have special features that are supposed to help with sleeping problems. Consider the choices when asking this question.

  • Memory foam mattress pads – These are the most common types of mattress pads. They can range in price from less than $50 to several hundred dollars. The memory foam is designed to conform to the body and to give the support to the body where it needs it the most. The memory foam will support the head, neck and back and will adjust itself as the body moves around. This support is said to relieve sleeping problems. Memory foam mattress pads come in thickness that ranges from 1 inch to 8 inches or more. If the pad is used on top of another mattress a thickness of 3 to 4 inches is usually all that is needed.
  • Egg Crate – These mattress pads are inexpensive and are designed to provide a softer top for a mattress. They may provide a little more comfort to the bed to help a person sleep, but not much more.
  • Down and feather – These are only designed to provide a softer bed. Many people get annoyed when they get stuck with feathers that go through the mattress pad or when they move around and find a spot where there are no feathers.
  • Magnetic mattress pad – The use of magnets to improve the health of the body has been debated for many years. The magnetic field that is created by these types of mattress pads is supposed to increase the blood flow and help with other minor aches and pains. If it works, it will help a person get a better night’s sleep and say goodbye to sleeping problems.

In the end there is little doubt that the right mattress pad can help a person who has trouble with sleeping problems. Even if they just think that they are more comfortable, it will put them in a better mood to get the sleep that they want and need.
